Mr. Schulz is a veteran of the United States
Navy, having served to the rank of a machinist mate 3rd class from 1977 until
1981. His work in the construction industry began in 1997 as a project safety
manager for MSC Inc., and throughout his career he has consulted for numerous
industry-leading firms. Before joining the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company,
Mr. Schulz worked in safety management and advisory positions with Windamir
Development and Pe Ben USA, and as a health and safety consultant for Patrick
Engineering. He has also served as an onsite site safety and health officer for
such companies as Intuitive Safety Solutions, Nova Group Inc., and Global Scrap
& Demolition, and was a safety specialist for Certified Safety, AIPCEnergy,
Fishbone Safety Solutions, and others throughout the 2010s. In addition to
working directly with clients and firms, Mr. Schulz has developed numerous
safety training curricula, including "Situational Awareness and
Complacency" in 2018, "Anticipate the Possibility" in 2017, and
"Hiding from Safety" in 2016.
As a part of his commitment to industry-wide safety awareness and compliance,
Mr. Schulz is a member of the American Society of Safety Professionals. He
attributes much of his success to luck, training, and his ability to connect
with others. Likewise, he is proud to have gone through his career free of
onsite fatalities. He lives by the credo "Know safety, no accidents,"
and tries to instill in others the same commitment to protecting themselves and
others at work.
Outside of his vocational circles, Mr. Schulz enjoys spending time with his
biological daughter, Cedar and his bonus children by marriage, a daughter
Samantha and sons, Josh and Chris who have blessed Dirk and Trish with ten
beautiful grandchildren, he likes to dabble in Leathercraft and volunteers his
carpentry skills to his local church.
